We always welcome new patients at McKeown Family Dental. All ages are welcome, from the little ones just getting their first teeth, to our mature patients that are interested in maintaining their smiles. Here is what to expect when you book your first appointment with us:
As a new patient, there are some pieces of information we will need to get from you to begin your care. We need some basic medical history, billing information and any insurance that you plan to use. Instead of waiting to give us this information at your visit, we make it convenient to fill out new patient forms before you come in. We have new patient forms online that you can fill out at your convenience, streamlining your check-in for your first visit.
During Your First Appointment
When you arrive for your first appointment, one of our friendly staff members will check you in and ensure we have all the information we need. We will let our dental team know you have arrived, and someone on our team will come escort you back to begin your appointment.
For your first visit, we usually will do a checkup and cleaning to get a baseline of your oral health. Your visit will start with our hygienist who will perform any needed x-rays and begin your periodontal exam. During this procedure, the hygienist is determining the health level of your gums, looking for any signs of gingivitis or gum disease. This can help determine the level of cleaning you will need to maintain your gum and oral health.
Once your cleaning is done, you will meet with Dr. McKeown. He will perform a comprehensive exam of your teeth and inspect your x-rays. Once a thorough exam is done, he will discuss the level of your oral health and recommend treatments, if needed. This is a good time to ask questions about any of our services – he will be happy to answer any questions you have.

Cleanings & Checkups
A preventive approach to dental care. These general dentistry treatments help prevent problems with your teeth, gums and jaw bones, or they catch and manage problems before they worsen.

Pediatric Dentistry
Our entire staff understands the importance of good oral health for young children. They are here to help protect and restore children’s teeth so that they can speak and eat easily and have a wonderful smile.
We also understand how important taking care of children’s teeth is. We will work with parents to ensure their children are taking good care of their teeth at home. We will also monitor their mouths for any problems so we can catch them early.

With a calm, friendly approach, Dr. McKeown’s goal is to help every patient feel as comfortable as possible while delivering the highest standard of care. Whether it’s a routine checkup or a complex procedure, he takes pride in creating a positive experience from start to finish.
He completed his Bachelor's in Biology at Aquinas College, and earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from LECOM School of Dental Medicine.
Outside of the office, Dr. McKeown enjoys life with his wonderful wife and their young daughter. He enjoys camping, fishing, golfing and watching movies.
